US rapper Takeoff, 28, shot dead in Houston, Texas

According to local reports, the American rapper Takeoff has been shot dead in Houston, Texas. Takeoff, real name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was one-third of the rap trio Migos alongside his uncle, Quavo, and cousin once removed, Offset.

Multiple sources alleged the shooting broke out over a dice game at a bowling alley.

Audio of a call to emergency services has emerged on which dispatchers can be heard saying five shots were fired.

Photos posted to social media showed Takeoff, 28, wearing a white shirt with black pants earlier in the night.

A video of the aftermath showed a man matching the description of the rapper lying motionless on the ground.

Celebrity website TMZ reported Takeoff was shot in the head shortly after 2.30am local time.

Graphic images showed uncle Quavo kneeling over his body shouting for help.

According to reports he was shot in either the head or the neck. It’s not know what caused the fracas.

Takeoff was born in Lawrenceville, 50km north of Atlanta in the US state of Georgia, in 2008.

The 2013 single Versace helped launch his career. Their first number-one single Bad and Boujee was released in 2016.

Migos’ first studio album Yung Rich Nation, which came out in July 2015, reached 17 on the Billboard 200 music charts.

Takeoff’s lawyer Drew Findling said his death a “devastating loss”

“The world was starting to learn about Takeoff. It was his time to shine,” he told The New York Times.
